About the NDIS – The National Disability Insurance Scheme

The NDIS is a new way of providing support to people under the age of 65 years, who have a permanent and significant disability. The NDIS gives people with a disability more choice and control of their own budgets and service options (subject to the NDIS guidelines).

The NDIS basically funds disability specific activities, or the ‘gap’ that due to the disability, requires more funds than would normally be paid for by yourself or your family, for that activity. This is what the NDIS deem as ‘necessary and reasonable’ supports for you to achieve your goals.

How can I access the NDIS?

 1. You have to be under 65 years of age.
 2. Be an Australian citizen
 3. Have a disability that is likely to be with you for life and substantially impacts your life activities.
 4. If possible, have a disability assessment from your doctor or therapist which is less than 2 years old

NEXT: Start by getting ready for your planning phone call from the NDIS.

Think about and write down, what support services you have now, what you what like to do, how you would like to live and what support services you require to do these things in the future. Request that you get support co-ordination in your package and whether you require a low or high level of support to manage your package.

You may only get a phone call (could be up to 2hrs long) in which you will discuss with the planner or Local Area Co-ordinator, what and how you require services for the coming year. This plan is virtually unchangeable, so you need to think about your needs carefully.

You will then receive your plan with a ‘package’ of allocated funds for the services that you requested.
Contact solved4u if you have Support Co-ordination or Financial Plan Management allocated in your package and we will come and help you.....

Please understand that the NDIS is constantly changing in each and every way as they are constantly trialing and changing their services and packages. As this is still largely a world of the ‘unknown’, we are not able to provide you with all the answers and solutions you may require and some of our ‘advice or support’ may not prove to be feasible or viable under the NDIS’ ever changing system. We cannot and will not be held responsible for any ‘advice’ given in good faith that proves not to be feasible or current.
